In the FORUM, a visitor named Seth wrote in a message titled "Friday Night
at the Rink": "As a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's there was no cooler
place than the roller skating rink in San Rafael. Parents flooded the parking
lot and dropped off their kids at 8pm. For the next 3 hours the evening was
filled by Backward Skate, Redlight Greenlight, Couple Skate, and stuffing
your face at the snack bar with crappy pizza and watered down fountain
drinks.
I still have the LP's that wrote my name on the cover and circled the songs I
wanted the DJ to play.
People from all over the county were there and it was the first time I ever
asked a girl out. My friends and I looked forward to going to that rink every
week.
Oh, and I'll never forget the night I arrived at the rink and there wasn't a
single person skating on the floor. Why? Because every kid was huddled in
the corner near some new arcade game that I couldn't even see because
there were so many bodies around it. That game was PACMAN and no one
in the county had ever seen it before."
